Twisha Sharma death: CBI chargesheet reconstructs her final hours, alleged months of cruelty

| @indiablooms | Aug 18, 2026, at 12:53 am

A chilling WhatsApp message, desperate calls to her parents and CCTV footage from her Bhopal home form the centrepiece of the CBI's reconstruction of the final hours of 34-year-old Twisha Sharma.

At 9:36 pm on May 12, Twisha allegedly sent a message to her sister-in-law Rashi Abrol: “Ask him to collect leftover of his wife. But tomorrow. Let me die in peace right now.”

Four minutes later, CCTV footage cited by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) allegedly showed Twisha walking alone from the ground floor of her Bhopal home towards the terrace.

At 9:41 pm, she called her father. According to the chargesheet, she was crying and told him that her husband, Samarth Singh, had become “very aggressive and violent”. She allegedly said she was scared and asked her parents to come to her as soon as possible.

She spoke to her mother again around 10:05 pm. The call later disconnected.

At around 10:23 pm, CCTV footage allegedly showed Samarth and his mother, Giribala Singh, heading towards the terrace. Twisha was subsequently brought downstairs and taken to AIIMS Bhopal, where she was declared brought dead at around 10:55 pm.

The details are part of the CBI's 30-page chargesheet filed on August 14 against Samarth and Giribala, accusing them of subjecting Twisha to sustained mental cruelty and abetting her suicide.

CBI alleges months of psychological abuse

The chargesheet goes beyond the events of May 12, piecing together WhatsApp messages, phone calls, CCTV footage, medical records, counselling sessions, statements from family members and financial allegations.

According to the CBI, Twisha and Samarth met through an online dating app in February 2025 and married on December 9 that year.

The agency alleges that after the marriage, Samarth repeatedly subjected Twisha to mental cruelty, including sexually derogatory remarks and attacks on her character over relationships she had disclosed before their marriage.

The CBI further alleges that Giribala repeatedly sided with or supported her son when Twisha complained about his conduct.

Pregnancy and abortion became a flashpoint

According to the chargesheet, the couple's relationship deteriorated sharply in March and April 2026.

Twisha discovered she was pregnant on April 16. The CBI says she was uncertain about continuing the pregnancy as it was unplanned and because of what she described as Samarth's abusive behaviour.

Following an argument on April 17, Twisha allegedly left her matrimonial home.

The chargesheet says she later decided to terminate the pregnancy and took the first dose of medication on May 6.

The CBI alleges that Giribala subsequently wanted Twisha to find out whether the termination could be reversed. Twisha went with her mother-in-law to a hospital on May 7, but doctors reportedly told them that the process could not be reversed.

She was subsequently referred to another doctor, Dr Kakoli Roy. According to the chargesheet, Twisha appeared emotionally distressed and anxious and allegedly told the doctor that Samarth and his family were unhappy with her decision to terminate the pregnancy.

The CBI also records Twisha's allegation that Giribala called her a “murderer” three times over the abortion.

On May 8, Twisha took the second medication dose. The chargesheet says she experienced considerable pain and bleeding and alleged that Samarth dismissed her complaints as “natak”, or drama.

'Mera jeevan narak ho gaya hai'

Twisha's WhatsApp messages, according to the CBI, documented her deteriorating emotional state.

On April 30, she allegedly told her mother that her problems had started again and that she had suffered an anxiety attack while travelling.

“Mera jeevan narak ho gaya hai mummy,” she wrote, according to the chargesheet.

She was taken to a psychiatrist that day. The CBI says the doctor found her anxious and stressed and uncomfortable about the pregnancy. She was prescribed anti-anxiety medication and advised to make a decision regarding the pregnancy when she was calmer.

On May 7, Twisha allegedly sent messages to her mother asking her to come and take her away.

“Maa aap mujhe yaha se lene aajao kal please,” one message cited in the chargesheet reads.

She allegedly told her mother that she did not believe Samarth wanted her anymore and that he had said he had been “tolerating” her.

Financial dispute also under CBI lens

The chargesheet also alleges a dispute over Twisha's investments.

According to the CBI, she had around Rs 20 lakh invested in shares through a demat account.

The agency alleges that Samarth and Giribala pressured her to transfer the investment into a joint bank account opened by Twisha and Samarth on April 7.

Twisha allegedly refused, saying the money belonged to her father.

The issue resurfaced on the day of her death. Around 7:51 pm on May 12, she allegedly told her sister-in-law that Samarth was pressuring her to transfer the investment so that he could invest it in the Chinese stock market.

The CBI has said the alleged dowry angle is being investigated separately.

She had already booked a ticket to leave

Perhaps one of the most significant details in the chargesheet is that Twisha had already decided to leave Bhopal on the morning of her death.

The CBI says she asked her mother for Rs 3,000 to book a train ticket to Nasirabad in Rajasthan.

She allegedly told her mother and sister-in-law that she had “done her best” to save the marriage but wanted to return to her family because Samarth was unwilling to attend couples counselling.

Her father transferred the money and Twisha booked the ticket.

After learning that she intended to leave, Samarth allegedly agreed to attend a counselling session with her.

Final counselling session

At around 11:30 am on May 12, the couple met Dr Kakoli Roy.

According to the chargesheet, Samarth also gave his version of the marital dispute during the session. He allegedly complained about Twisha's behaviour and said that both of them consumed marijuana.

The CBI says the doctor told Samarth that Twisha was “suffering badly”, advised him to listen patiently and give her time, and asked the couple to stop using marijuana.

They returned home around 1 pm.

Twisha later went to a beauty parlour at around 3:11 pm and returned around 6:11 pm.

The CBI says she saw Samarth and Giribala walking outside and tried to join them but alleged that they ignored her. She then called her mother and said she had concluded that nothing in the marriage could improve.

According to the agency, Twisha decided to leave Bhopal “forever”.

The final hours

Around 9:20 pm, Twisha was speaking to Rashi Abrol over the phone and was allegedly crying continuously.

The chargesheet says she told Rashi that she had asked Samarth to sleep in the bedroom because of her back pain, but he had allegedly become aggressive and violent.

The call disconnected.

At 9:29 pm, she answered another call but was reportedly crying so heavily that no meaningful conversation took place.

Seven minutes later came the WhatsApp message: “Let me die in peace right now.”

At around 9:40 pm, CCTV allegedly captured Twisha walking towards the terrace alone.

A minute later, she called her father and asked her parents to come quickly.

At around 10:05 pm, she spoke to her mother again.

Her mother allegedly tried repeatedly to call her afterwards and also attempted to contact Samarth. Around 10:10 pm, she called Giribala and asked her to check on Twisha because she had been crying heavily.

The CBI says CCTV footage showed Giribala leaving her room around 10:16 pm and going downstairs. She allegedly called Twisha at 10:18 pm after failing to find her.

Around 10:21 pm, Giribala called Samarth.

At approximately 10:23 pm, CCTV allegedly showed Giribala followed by Samarth moving towards the terrace.

Twisha was later brought downstairs by Samarth, his cousin and a house help and taken to AIIMS Bhopal.

Second postmortem ruled out assault injuries

The case had also triggered controversy over Twisha's postmortem.

The first AIIMS Bhopal postmortem concluded that she died from ante-mortem hanging. Her family alleged that the report had been manipulated and sought another examination.

Following an order of the Madhya Pradesh High Court, an AIIMS Delhi medical board conducted a second postmortem on May 24.

According to the report reproduced in the CBI chargesheet, the cause of death was asphyxia due to ante-mortem hanging, with the manner of death recorded as suicidal.

The AIIMS Delhi board also found no other medico-legally significant injuries suggesting an assault before her death.

The CBI's case, therefore, is not that Twisha was physically killed. Instead, the agency alleges that sustained mental cruelty drove her to take her own life.

CBI says investigation is still ongoing

The chargesheet says a forensic psychological assessment based on Twisha's diaries, CCTV footage and other material found evidence of hopelessness, sustained psychological harm and lack of support.

The CBI alleges that Samarth and Giribala subjected her to mental cruelty “to such an extent” that she was left with “no choice except to end her life”.

The agency has charged the two under Sections 85, 108 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

However, the investigation has not yet concluded.

The CBI says forensic extraction of Twisha's primary iPhone is still awaited and could reveal additional evidence, witnesses or possible involvement of others.

The DVR from the accused's home has also been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory in New Delhi to examine the continuity of the CCTV footage and determine whether it was tampered with.

Voice samples of Samarth and Giribala have separately been sent for comparison with audio recordings recovered during the investigation.

The CBI has also sought permission to continue investigating allegations relating to dowry demand and dowry death under Section 193(9) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
