Meet Hemang Joshi: BJP's new youth wing chief, replacing Tejasvi Surya

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Vadodara MP Hemang Joshi as the new national president of its youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, replacing Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya.

The organisational change comes at a time when youth-led movements and Generation Z voices have gained greater political attention across India, with parties seeking to strengthen their engagement with younger voters.

Tejasvi Surya announced his successor's appointment in a post on social media platform X.

Who is Hemang Joshi?

Born on January 31, 1991, in Porbandar, Gujarat, Joshi has emerged as one of the BJP's younger leaders and has built his political career around Vadodara.

His association with the city began when his father moved to Vadodara in 2008 for his higher education in physiotherapy.

Joshi enrolled at Maharaja Sayajirao University and remained associated with the institution until 2021.

His entry into civic politics came in January 2022, when he was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation's School Committee under the leadership of then-city BJP president Dr Vijay Shah.

Rapid rise within BJP

Joshi's rise through the BJP's organisational structure has accelerated over the past few years.

The party fielded him from Vadodara in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, which he won. In May 2025, he was selected as the sole BJP MP from Gujarat to be part of the party's delegation during Operation Sindoor.

Later that year, in November, he was appointed in-charge of the Special Investment Region in Gujarat. In December 2025, he took charge as president of the Gujarat BJP youth wing.

His performance in the state role subsequently paved the way for his elevation to the national leadership of the party's youth organisation.

Why BJP chose Joshi?

Joshi's appointment comes after a period in which the BJP leadership has placed emphasis on strengthening its connection with younger sections of the electorate.

During his tenure as Gujarat youth wing chief, Joshi introduced new organisational initiatives, including a large-scale digital meeting that drew the attention of senior BJP leaders Amit Shah and BL Santhosh.

Party leaders are understood to have been looking for a young leader who could combine organisational ability with strong communication skills while maintaining a relatively low public profile.

Joshi is fluent in Gujarati, Hindi and English and has also been associated with technology-driven initiatives.

His establishment of a "Digital MP Office" in Vadodara was among the initiatives that brought him wider attention.

From Vadodara to national politics

Joshi has also featured in several high-profile political developments since becoming an MP.

Along with BJP MPs Bansuri Swaraj and Anurag Thakur, he was among the complainants who approached the police following a scuffle involving opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi on the premises of Parliament.

With his appointment as national president of the BJP's youth wing, Joshi now takes on the task of expanding the party's organisational reach among young Indians and responding to the changing political aspirations of the country's younger generation.
