Sushil Kumar Modi urges Centre to release fund of 15th Finance Commission to Bihar in first trimester

Pàtna/UNI: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi today urged the Centre to release within first trimester itself, the fund to the state to be given as per recommendations of 15th Finance Commission, in view of huge loss in revenue collection due to Corona pandemic.

Modi, in a letter written to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, urged her to issue necessary instructions for release of Rs 7, 434 Crores to Bihar in first trimester of the fiscal 2020-21 itself, which state had to be given as per recommendations of 15th Finance Commission.

It had become essential as revenue collection in Bihar had decreased sharply due to Corona pandemic, he noted.

The Deputy Chief Minister said that Centre should also release the fund as per its share for payment of salaries to university teachers and contract teachers. In last fiscal year, Centre had released only Rs 326.93 Crores against its share of Rs 6,426 Crores for payment of salaries to contact teachers, he pointed out.

Modi said, out of Rs 7,434 Crores to be given to Bihar by the Centre as per recommendations of 15th Finance Commission, Rs 5,018 Crores would go to Panchayati Raj institutions and local bodies would get Rs 2,416 Crores.

If fund was released by the Centre, it would be convenient for the state government to execute schemes under seven resolves including construction of lanes and drains, he stated.
