Supreme Court reserves order on payment of wages during lockdown
New Delhi/UNI: The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its orders on petitions challenging the Ministry of Home Affairs' notification directing payment of full salary to employees for lockdown period.
"We are reserving the orders for June 12, Friday. We will pass orders on that date,"a bench of the Apex Court, headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan said.
It heard detailed arguments and submissions from all the respective parties, petitioners and respondents, before reserving the orders.
The Apex Court also said that no coercive actions should be taken until June 12, when it would pronounce judgement on the issue.
The court reserved its judgement after hearing a batch of petitions seeking a direction against those employers who had cut salaries of employees and proper implementation of the MHA notification and order during the pandemic.
While Solicitor General Tushar Mehta and Attorney General KK Venugopal appeared for the Centre, Vineet Gopal and many lawyers represented the petitioners.
