'Sanatana Dharma' row: Tamil Nadu police registers case against BJP's Amit Malviya

Tiruchirapalli/UNI: The Tiruchirapalli city police have registered a case against Amit Malviya, National Convener of the IT cell of BJP, for allegedly distorting the comments of DMK leader and Tamil Nadu Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development, Udhayanidhi Stalin on Sanatana Dharma.

Malviya in a post recently on X (formerly Twitter) stated that Udhayanidhi has linked Sanatana Dharma to malaria and dengue. He is of the opinion that it (Sanatana Dharma) must be eradicated and not merely opposed.

In short, he (Udhayanidhi) is calling for genocide of 80 percent population of Bharat, who follow Sanatana Dharma.

K.A.V.Dinakaran, organiser of DMK advocates wing of Tiruchirapalli south district in a complaint to the Tiruchirapalli city Commissioner of Police said that despite Mr.Udhayanidhi issued clarification over his remarks on Sanatana Dharma, the BJP leader deliberately distorted the speech with political motive to incite violence and hatred between two groups and to undermine communal harmony.

Based on the complaint, the City Crime Branch police registered a case against Mr.Malviya under Sections 153, 153 (A), 504, 505 (1) (b) of the Indian Penal Code, police sources said here on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Madurai Cyber Crime Wing police filed a case against Seer Ramachandra Das Paramahans Acharya, the chief priest of the Tapaswi Chawni temple of Ayodhya, who offered a Rs 10 crore reward for beheading Mr.Udhayanidhi for his controversial remarks.

The police registered a case under Sections 153, 153 A (1) (a), 504, 505 (1) (b), 505 (2) and 506 (ii) against the seer following a complaint from DMK advocates’ wing coordinator J.Devasenan. The police also booked a journalist Piyush Rai, who had shared the video of the seer issuing death threat to Mr.Udhayanidhi.

Udhayanidhi, son of State Chief Minister M.K.Stalin sparked a massive political row by comparing the Hindu religious belief Sanatana Dharma to dengue and malaria and said it should be eradicated like these ailments.

While, BJP, AIADMK, Tamil Maanila Congress, Puthiya Tamilagam and Hindutva groups strongly condemned his remarks, the DMK and its allies supported his comments.

However, some leaders of Opposition’s new alliance I.N.D.I.A like Congress, Trinamool Congress, Shiv Sena and Aam Aadmi parties have distanced themselves from their ally DMK’s stand on Sanatana Dharma.
