PM Modi, Donald Trump discuss India-China border tension, US civil protests

New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump on Tuesday discussed the India-China border skirmishes and the civil disturbances in the US over the death of a black man in police custody.

During the telephonic conversation, Trump invited PM Modi to attend the G7 Summit in the US.

"Prime Minister @narendramodi holds telephonic conversation with US resident @realDonaldTrump. President Trump extended an invitation to Prime Minister Modi to attend the next #G7Summit to be held in USA

"Had a warm and productive conversation with my friend President @realDonaldTrump. We discussed his plans for the US Presidency of G-7, the COVID-19 pandemic, and many other issues," PM Modi said after the call.

PM Modi said the richness and depth of India-US consultations will remain an important pillar of the post-COVID global architecture.

Trump earlier proposed to mediate amid rising tension between India and China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the de-facto border between the two countries.

Indian and Chinese troops have been involved in as many as four unsavoury incidents in recent weeks alone. Troops from the two countries clashed and came to blows on 5 May near the Pangong Tso lake that falls partly in eastern Ladakh and partly in Tibet.

Meanwhile, massive protests rocked different cities across the US throughout Sunday over the May 25 killing of black man George Floyd by the 44-year old white police officer in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
