New Delhi/IBNS: 360 Indian citizens, who were scammed into working as "cyber slaves" in Cambodia, have returned, media reports said.

The citizens have been brought back to India in the last 4-5 months.

Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre Rajesh Kumar on Wednesday said another 60 Indian citizens will return in the upcoming weeks.

In view of the rising cases of cybercrime incidents originating in South Asia targeting India, the Centre on May 16 formed a high-level inter-ministerial committee with the Special Secretary (Internal Security) of Union Home Ministry as the chairperson.

The committee, which consists of officials from various departments including External Affairs and Finance, met twice.

The committee was created for a "very focused and concerted action on ending this menace which is going on from Southeast Asia," Kumar said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Kumar said the Indian citizens, who have returned now, were offered attractive job offers prompting them to opt for them in Cambodia.

Upon reaching Cambodia, their passports were taken away and employed to scam Indians through online apps, Telegram, WhatsApp and others, reports say.
