Nepal Communist Party draws flak for holding virtual meet with China
Kathmandu/UNI: Nepal and China's communits parties had a virtual meeting, inviting sharp criticism from the country's ruling and opposition leaders, for holding this at a time when relations between India and China were acutely strained, due to a face-off between the two armies at Galwan Valley, in which India lost 20 army personnel.
''There is tension at the India-China border, but we are holding a meeting with one of the conflicting parties. We have upheld the policy of non-alignment and peaceful diplomacy, but such activities will harm our credibility,'' Nepal Communist Party (NCP)'s Deputy Chief of Foreign Department Surendra Karki told Kathmandu Post.
The report in the KP further said that several top leaders of the party, including Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli, refrained themselves in taking part in the discussion held on Friday.
Nepal Communist Party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokharel were among some top leaders who took part in the virtual meet.
Nepal's anti-New Delhi behaviour from the past some time is not being taken in a good taste in India. Its recent move, in which it updated its political map showing Indian territories of Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura as its own, invited sharp criticism from India.
