Mumbai's 16-year-old Kaamya Karthikeyan becomes youngest Indian to scale Mount Everest from Nepal side

A 16-year-old mountaineer from Mumbai has added her name to the history book by becoming the youngest Indian to scale Mt Everest from the Nepal side.

Kaamya Karthikeyan is a Class 12 student of  Navy Children School, Mumbai.

Congratulating her, Indian Navy posted on X: "#IndianNavy congratulates Ms Kaamya Karthikeyan d/o Cdr S Karthikeyan on becoming the youngest #Indian & the second youngest girl in the world to summit Mt Everest from the Nepal side. Kaamya has exhibited immense courage & fortitude in summiting the highest peaks in six of the seven continents."

"#IndianNavy wishes young Kaamya the very best in her aspiration to summit the highest peaks of all seven continents, becoming the youngest girl to do so," the X post said.

According to reports, her father Cdr S Karthikeyan successfully summited Mt. Everest (8,849 m) on May 20.

In a Facebook post following her successful scaling of the iconic mountain, the teen posted: " It still hasn't sunk in that my dad and I have finally summitted the highest peak in the world! I had an audience with Sagarmatha at 1250 hrs on 20 May 24 and am extremely grateful to all of our well wishers, sponsors, supporters, sherpas and everyone else who has helped me achieve this feat!"
