More than 20.31 per cent polling in first four hours in Bihar
Patna, Apr 11 (UNI): Amid elaborate security arrangement, at least 20.31 per cent electorate exercised their franchise in first four hours of polling in four Lok Sabha constituencies constituencies in Bihar during the first phase of elections.
According to the state election office, the highest 22 per cent exercised their franchise in Nawada constituency followed by 21 per cent each in Gaya (reserved) and Jamui (reserved) constituencies.
In the Aurangabad Lok Sabha constituency, 17.10 per cent voters exercised their voting rights in the first four hours of polling.
In by-election to Nawada Assembly constituency, 21 per cent voters have cast their votes during the period.
According to a report from Gaya, a joint team of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and district police recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) near polling booth number 9 under Dumaria block area and a bomb under Imamganj police station area of Gaya district in Aurangabad Lok Sabha constituency.
Gaya senior police superintendent Rajiv Mishra said here that extremists of outlawed CPI (Maoist) had planted IED near the polling booth opened at a school at Anraban Salaiya village under Dumaria block area with an intention to disturb polling process.
He said that security forces recovered IED on the basis of specific intelligence input. Similarly, a bomb was recovered under the Imamganj police station area.
Mr Mishra said that the process was on to defuse IED and bomb. Further investigation was on.
