Modi's policies setting Kashmir on fire: Rahul Gandhi in Tamil Nadu
Chennai, Mar 13 (IBNS): Addressing the youth in Tamil Nadu's capital city, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday blamed the polices of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for the ongoing crisis of cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.
"The moment Mr. Modi came to power, he made a mistake of forming alliance with PDP. Today, his policies are actually setting fire to J&K. His policies are pushing people away and allow Pakistan to carry out terrorism in India," Gandhi said while addressing the students of Stella Maris Women's College.
Kick-starting his poll campaign in the southern state, where BJP and Congress have lesser presence, Gandhi highlighted his party's strategy after coming to power in 2004 to tackle the issue of Kashmir, where at least 40 Indian paramilitary personnel were martyred in a terror attack last month.
"When we came to power in 2004, policies of Vajpayee govt had set fire in J&K. We decided to fight terrorism strategically. Firstly, we isolated Pakistan all over the world and then we engaged with the population of J&K," the Congress president dressed in t-shirt and a pair of jeans told the gathering.
Pakistan-based militant organisation, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), had carried out the terror attack in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Feb 14. In response, the Indian Air Force (IAF) had conducted an airstrike across the Line of Control (LoC) in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Gandhi attacks Modi over Rafale:
Citing The Hindu report claiming PMO (Prime Minister's Office) held a separate talk during the negotiation of the Rafale deal (buying of 36 fighter jets from France by India), Gandhi said Modi should also be probed.
"Law should apply to everybody equally. PM Modi has his name in govt documents which say that he is directly responsible for negotiating parallelly with Dassault on Rafale deal. Investigate everybody," the parliamentarian from Uttar Pradesh's Amethi said.
Tamil Nadu politics:
In the southern state, Congress is likely to fight the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in an alliance with MK Stalin's DMK.
On the other hand, BJP has tied-up with Tamil Nadu's ruling party AIADMK.
