Kolkata: Mamata Banerjee leads a mega rally to mark International Women’s Day

Kolkata, Mar 8 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today led a mega rally on the city streets to mark the International Women’s Day.

Leading a walk on foot from the Shraddhananda Park in central part of the city to Esplanade, about 2.5 kms, Ms Banerjee, who is also the chairperson of the state ruling Trinamool Congress, led the rally where a plethora of participants were women, Besides, Banerjee, some of her women cabinet colleagues have taken part in the rally, which had handwritten placards denouncing the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and appreciating development works of the state ruling party, particularly for womenof the society.

After coming to power in 2011, the Mamata Banerjee led government laid a major emphasis on the empowerment of women, including Kanyasree, in the state due to which numerous projects and schemes have been launched. 

Banerjee is expected to address the rally at Esplanade.

The rally also choked the city streets in the busy hours as hundreds of vehicles were stranded on B B Ganguly Street and Lenin Sarani leading to Esplanade.
