Srinagar/UNI: Security forces gunned down two militants during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the Srinagar outskirts on Saturday, a police spokesman said.

He said troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint CASO early this morning at Ranbirgrah Panzinara on Srinagar-Bandipora road following a tip off about the presence of militants.

However, encounter broke out after militants opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons when security forces were moving towards a particular area in the cordoned off area.

Two militants were killed so far and operation was still going on when the reports last came in, the spokesperson confirmed.

Official sources said a security force Jawan was also injured in the encounter. Additional security forces have been deployed in the adjacent areas to maintain law and order.
