The Anti-Corruption Bureau on Friday trapped and arrested a revenue official in a bribery case in Kathua district here.

An official handout said that the ACB team received an online complaint from a resident of Machhedi alleging that Patwari Gulshan Singh has been demanding a Rs 5,000 bribe for issuing a Virsati Inteqal mutation and legal heir certificate.

The ACB got into action when the Patwari allegedly demanded a balance of Rs 3,000 from the complainant for issuing the documents after an initial Rs 2,000 payment. A case was registered at Police Station ACB Central.

“During the course of investigation, a trap was laid and the accused Patwari was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs 3,000 in presence of independent witnesses,” he said. The accused was arrested on the spot. Searches were also conducted at the accused's home in Ram Nagar Colony.
