New Delhi: India on Friday lifted restrictions on the export of specified quantities of nine products, including potatoes, onions, eggs, rice, wheat flour, and sugar, to Maldives for the current fiscal year.

“The export of above items to Republic of Maldives will be exempted from any existing or future restriction/prohibition on export,” the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a notification,

The DGFT added that these exports have been permitted to Maldives under bilateral trade agreement between the countries during 2024-25.

India and Maldives inked a trade agreement back in 1981, facilitating the export of essential commodities.

The agreement allows for specific quantities, including 21,513.08 tonnes of potatoes, 35,749.13 tonnes of onions, 1,24,218.36 tonnes of rice, 1,09,162.96 tonnes of wheat flour, 64,494.33 tonnes of sugar, and 224.48 tonnes of dal.
