Chennai: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested two people following extensive searches at 10 locations across five districts in Tamil Nadu in connection with the Hizb-ut-Tahrir case.

The arrested individuals belong to Hizb-ut-Tahrir, an international pan-Islamist and fundamentalist group that aims to restore the Islamic caliphate and implement the constitution authored by Hizb-ut-Tahrir's founder, Taqi al-Din al-Nabhani.

The accused have been identified as Abdul Rehman, also known as Abdul Rahman, and Mujibur Rehman, also known as Mujibur Rahman Altham Sahib, both hailing from Thanjavur district.

The NIA probe revealed that the accused conducted secret classes to radicalise the youth in extremist ideologies, and described the Indian Constitution, law and judiciary as anti-Islamic.

According to the NIA statement, trainees were taught that currently, India is considered Darul Kufr (Land of Non-believers) and it was their responsibility to convert it into Darul Islam through violent jihad.

During the operation, the NIA confiscated mobile phones, a laptop, SIM cards, memory cards, and various incriminating documents.

These included books, printouts detailing the ideologies of Hizb-ut-Tahrir, Khilafa, the Islamic State, and plans for the Khilafah government along with its funding mechanisms.
