New Delhi/IBNS: A 22-year-old woman was repeatedly stabbed multiple times by her estranged husband first inside a cafe in Kolkata's Beck Bagan and then on the road outside, media reports said.

The victim has been identified as Aribah Iqbal and she was stabbed by her estranged husband Irtiqua Iqbal.

The locals caught the man and handed him over to the police.

The woman was taken to SSKM hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

The husband was arrested earlier based on a complaint by his wife and was out on bail.

According to witnesses, the couple was engaged in a heated argument inside the cafe on Nasiruddin Road when Irtiqua suddenly sprang up and attacked Aribah with a sharp weapon.

Bleeding profusely from a head wound, Aribah then ran out onto the road screaming for help but was chased and attacked continuously from behind.

Initially taken aback, locals first tried to save Aribah from the stabbing and then beat Irtiqua up before handing him over to the police.
