Shimla/IBNS: In a positive news for the INDIA bloc, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu's wife and Congress candidate Kamlesh Thakur has won from the Dehra assembly segment where byelection was held on July 10.

Thakur defeated her nearest rival, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s Hoshyar Singh, by 9,399 votes, according to the figure of Election Commission of India's official website.

Congratulating his wife on X, Sukhu posted, "This election has given a clear message that the people of Himachal will not tolerate the actions of harming democracy and attacking the mandate of the state on the strength of the power of the Centre."

Apart from Dehra, the Congress is leading in Nalagarh seat while the BJP is ahead in Hamirpur.

In Nalagarh, Congress' Hardeep Singh Bawa is ahead of BJP's K.L. Thakur by over 8,000 votes.

In Hamirpur, BJP candidate Ashish Sharma is ahead of Congress' Dr. Pushpinder Verma by a slim margin of little over 1,500 votes.

INDIA's strong performance in the byelections is credited to Trinamool Congress' clean sweep in West Bengal where the ruling party won all four seats.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is leading in Punjab's Jalandhar West and Congress' ally DMK is ahead in Tamil Nadu's Vikravandi.

In Bihar's Rupauli, where BJP's ally JD(U) was ahead since morning, Independent candidate Shankar Singh has taken a lead of more than 4,000 votes.

The election results will be held as significant as the INDIA bloc managed to reduce the BJP's tally in Lok Sabha to 240, 32 less than the majority mark.

With 240 seats, the BJP, which is spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, needs the mandatory support of its allies to run the government.
