New Delhi/IBNS: Former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday informed that he has tested positive for Novel Coronavirus or Covid-19.

Mukherjee in a tweet asked all people who came in contact with him to self-isolate and get tested for Covid-19.

He tweeted, "On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self isolate and get tested for COVID-19."

Mukherjee, 84, remained the President of the country of 1.3 billion people between 2012-2017.

Prior to becoming the President, he remained a Congress leader for decades and held several portfolios as a Union Minister.

Hearing the news, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee tweeted, "Concerned to hear about Former President Pranab Mukherjee Da testing positive for #COVID19. My prayers are with him & his family during this time and I wish him a speedy recovery."
