ECI appoints Sanjay Mukherjee as new West Bengal DGP ahead of Lok Sabha polls

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday appointed Sanjay Mukherjee, a 1989 batch IPS officer as the new Director General of Police (DGP)of West Bengal with immediate effect.

The ECI in a notification said it has approved the name of Sanjay Mukherjee (IPS 1989 batch) for the post of Director General and Inspector General of Police, West Bengal.

The ECI approved the name of Sanjay Mukherjee oiut of the panel of three officers sent by the state government as asked by the ECI on Tuesday.

The ECI on Monday had removed DGP Rajiv Kumar and appointed Vivek Sahay in his place.

Sahay is to retire from service at the end of May, 2024.

The ECI announced 7 phases of elections starting from April 19 in West Bengal.
