DGCA orders safety audit of IndiGo
New Delhi, Apr 17 (IBNS): Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered a safety audit of IndiGo, India's largest airline with 220 aircraft in service, including 74 Airbus A320 Neo.
The A320 Neo's next-generation Pratt & Whitney engines have faced several problems.
"We confirm that there is currently a DGCA audit on IndiGo which is combined with the annual main base audit," IndiGo said in a statement.
The airline also confirmed it had received ''a limited number of show cause notices'' and ''has responded accordingly.''
The DGCA said: 'We do detailed audit of all airlines at least once in a year. IndiGo is this month. Some other one in June. Every audit involves some actions.''
NDTV, citing sources, said the audit was "ordered to look into instances of the airline not reporting incidents involving the A-320 NEO aircraft".
The report said there have been at least 18 cases of mid-air engine failures or problems that IndiGo andGoAir have encountered with the A-320 NEO aircraft since January this year.
On Tuesday, IndiGo said it would operate more flights to and from Mumbai and Delhi during the busy season.
Effective May this year, the airline will operate 10 additional flights out of Mumbai and eight additional flights from Delhi, the carrier said in a statement.
