Coronavirus: Delhi schools to remain closed till July 31
New Delhi/IBNS: Schools in Delhi will remain closed till July 31 as the national capital continues to witness a spike in the number of coronavirus cases.
Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia informed about the decision on Friday following a meeting with education department officials.
Delhi presently has the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases in India.
The move was taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the students.
During the meeting, it was also proposed to cut syllabus up to 50 per cent.
Officials agreed to continue with online classes with the help of parents for the time being.
"Let's design a plan to reopen schools in a way that would prepare our students to adjust to the new circumstances and not fear them. It would help our students to learn to live with coronavirus," Sisodia said in the meeting.
The panel agreed to hold small group classes for students of 9th and 10th standard. Students of Class 10 should have regular classes, officials recommended.
The Delhi government had earlier invited suggestions from parents on how to plan to reopen of schools after the Centre earlier this month relaxed the restrictions of lockdown.
Delhi reported 3,390 fresh coronavirus cases on Friday, taking the tally in the city to 73,780.
With 64 deaths during the past 24 hours, the COVID-19 fatalities in the national capital stood at 2,429, government data said.
