BJP's Krishnanagar candidate Amrita Roy says she had no knowledge of money sent by top brass for polls

Kolkata/IBNS: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from West Bengal's Krishnanagar Amrita Roy, who was defeated by Trinamool Congress (TMC)'s fiery leader Mahua Moitra, has alleged she was kept in dark by the local party leaders over the money sent from the top brass for the polls.

Speaking to ABP Ananda, Roy said, "I had no knowledge of the money sent by Modi-ji from the central leadership for the election. I felt very irritated..."

"Till date, I have no knowledge of how much money was sent and the amount which was spent for the polls. I have no cheque book or passbook with me. Only they (local leaders) had got me to sign some cheques."

When asked about the reason behind her defeat, Roy said, "A lot of things worked against me. Does only the Modi wave help to win an election? No. Strategies also do matter to win elections.

"Krishnanagar, to my mind, was a winning seat for BJP. I worked following the party's directives. But there was a lot of BJP's infighting in the constituency."

Moitra, who was expelled from Parliament over 'cash-for-query' charges, defeated Roy by over 56,000 votes from the seat, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself campaigned.

West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee campaigned extensively for Moitra, who is known for her fiery speeches against the Modi government in Parliament.

Moitra's success is a reflection of how TMC performed in the Lok Sabha polls as Mamata's party is leading in 29 out of 42 seats as opposed to BJP's 12 and Congress 1.
