The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday nominated party leaders Sajal Ghosh ( KMC Councilor) and Bhaskar Sarkar for by-elections to Baranagar and Bhagwangola (Murshidabad) Assembly seats respectively.

Bhagobangola will go to by-poll on May 7 during the 3rd phase of Parliament elections and the Baranagar assembly poll is scheduled to be held in the final 7th phase on June 1, 2024.

The Baranagar Assembly seat fell vacant recently when the incumbent Tapas Roy quit the post and TMC and joined BJP and got nomination for Lok Sabha poll from Kolkata Uttar.

The Bhogobangola seat fell vacant after incumbent TMC MLA idris Ali died a few months ago.

Bengal will have seven phases of general elections beginning from April 19 to June 1, 2024.
