BJP discusses candidate age limit at parliamentary board meeting
New Delhi, Mar 8 (IBNS): A BJP parliamentary board meeting is under way to decide whether the party should field candidates above 75 years of age, Rajya Sabha members and sitting MLA in the coming Lok Sabha elections, Hindustan Times said.
Since 2014, the party already has the policy of 75 years as the age limit for ministerial positions.
The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to take place latest by May and the Election Commission is expected to announce the dates by next week.
Last month, the BJP leadership had hinted that the 75-year age bar was only for ministerial positions and not to contest elections.
If the age limit is also implemented for candidates, senior leaders such as L.K. Advani (91) and Murli Manohar Joshi (85) would not be able to contest elections this time.
