Supreme Court rejects plea to postpone GATE exam
New Delhi/UNI: The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a petition seeking postponement of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) examination 2022 due to COVID-19.
The exam is to begin from Feb 5.
A Bench headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud said that postponing the examination would lead to anarchy and uncertainty, which would adversely affect the future of the students.
The petition demanded a postponement in view of the third wave of Covid-19. On a plea by advocate Pallabh Mongia for an early hearing, the top court dismissed the petition.
This time, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur is conducting the exam.
The exam admit cards have been issued.
The petitioners said about nine lakh candidates were appearing in the examination, out of which a large number of candidates are continuously demanding a postponement.
