Jharkhand policemen thrash army jawan for not wearing mask
Chatra/IBNS: An Indian Army jawan was beaten black and blue by policemen in Chatra district of Jharkhand for not wearing a mask on Wednesday.
A video of the incident has gone viral in which the cops can be seen kicking and slapping the Jawan, identified as Pawan Kumar Yadav, in the Karma Bazar locality of Chatra.
The cops were conducting checks in the area as part of a drive to enforce the wearing of masks when Yadav, a resident of Aara-Bhusahi village nearby, arrived there on his bike, reported NDTV, adding that the cops stopped him and one of them, Havaldar Sanjay Bahadur Rana, removed the keys of the bike.
This infuriated the army man who protested strongly and this sparked a flurry of kicks and fists from the policemen, many of whom were themselves not wearing masks, as visible in the one of the viral videos.
The jawan was saved by the angry villagers who intervened seeing the lone man getting beaten. He was then taken to the Mayurhand police station.
Three police personnel, along with two other officials, have been suspended in the incident after a police complaint submitted by officials on Chatra Police Superintendent's office, the report said.
Chatra SP Rakesh Ranjan has sought a report. Local MP Sunil Kumar Singh has also spoken to the SP and demanded strict action against the police personnel involved.
