Buried at home: UP man arrested for killing wife, two daughters over burqa dispute
Lucknow/IBNS: A chilling crime has come to light in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district, where a man is accused of killing his wife and two young daughters and burying their bodies inside his own house.
Police say the murders were allegedly triggered by a dispute over the woman not wearing a burqa, a claim that has sent shockwaves through the region.
The accused, identified as Farooq, was taken into custody after his family members were reported missing for nearly a week.
His wife, Tahira, 35, and daughters Shareen, 14, and Afreen, 6, had not been seen in the village, raising suspicion among locals.
Disappearance raises alarm
The case surfaced after the village head informed police on Tuesday about the sudden disappearance of the woman and her children.
Acting on the complaint, police launched a search operation and questioned Farooq, whose responses reportedly raised further suspicion.
During interrogation, Farooq allegedly confessed to killing all three and led investigators to a pit dug inside his house.
Senior police officials, including Superintendent of Police N.P. Singh rushed to the spot, where the bodies were exhumed in the presence of forensic teams.
‘Honour’ cited as motive
According to preliminary findings, the incident stemmed from a domestic argument.
Police said Tahira had asked her husband for money, which escalated into a quarrel.
She reportedly left the house for her parents’ home without wearing a burqa, an act Farooq allegedly viewed as damaging to his “honour”.
Investigators said the accused later brought his wife back home after about a month and then carried out the killings.
The bodies of Tahira and her daughters were buried in a pit inside the house to conceal the crime.
Weapons recovered, probe continues
Police recovered a pistol and cartridges believed to have been used in the murders from Farooq’s possession.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations to determine the exact cause of death.
Officials described the case as a brutal domestic crime and said further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and verify all claims made by the accused.
Farooq remains in police custody as authorities continue to question him and gather evidence in what has become one of the most disturbing crimes reported in the area in recent times.
