NSA: Dr. Kafeel Khan released from Mathura prison after Allahabad HC order

Mathura: Uttar Pradesh doctor Kafeel Khan, who was jailed under the National Security Act (NSA), walked out of a prison in Mathura on Wednesday.

The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday dismissed all the charges filed against Uttar Pradesh doctor Kafeel Khan under National Security Act (NSA) and ordered his immediate release, media reports said.

Dr. Khan was charged under the NSA for his speech against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) late last year.
He has been in jail since Jan 29, 2020 in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura.

The high court was hearing a habeous corpus petition filed by Dr. Khan's mother seeking her son's release.

The First Information Report (FIR), which was filed against Khan, stated the accused had tried to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in the university and disturb communal harmony.

Two days after the case was registered against Khan, a clash broke out at AMU and police were accused of resorting to violence. In a video, the police were seen assaulting students and smashing two-wheelers.

Dr. Khan is the same person who was jailed following the death of 60 children at a government hospital in Uttar Pradesh in 2017.
