New Delhi, Nov 6 (IBNS): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday congratulated workers and party leaders in Karnataka after the Congress-JD(S) alliance performed strongly in the by-polls in the southern state.

The coalition won four, out of the five seats, in the by-polls.

Giving a jolt to the BJP, the coalition clinched the Ballari and Mandya parliamentary seats.

It also registered victories in the Jamkhandi and Ramanagara assembly seats.

The BJP won the Shivamogga Lok Sabha constituency.

Gandhi tweeted: "Congratulations to all the workers & leaders of the Congress party in Karnataka on the decisive victory of the Congress-JD(S) alliance in the By-Polls in the state. I thank each & every one of you, for your dedication & hard work that made this victory possible."

The by-polls results came out at a time when the nation is gearing up for the Lok Sabha polls next year.
