IIT-Guwahati student from Karnataka allegedly commits suicide

Guwahati, Sept 12 (IBNS): A first year B-Tech student of IIT-Guwahati has allegedly committed suicide in the higher educational institution hostel on Wednesday.

According to the reports, 18-year-old Nagashree SC Aithal, who is hailing from Shimoga in Karnataka, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan of her room of Dhansiri girls hostel of IIT-Guwahati.

The first year BTech in Mechanical Engineering student joined in July this year.

Labanu Konwar, PRO of IIT-Guwahati said that one of her roommate went to attend a morning class and she came back to the room after attending the class.

“The roommate didn’t get any response when she knocked the door. She immediately informed security people and they also informed the IIT-Guwahati authorities and the local police. The institute authority and the local police immediately rushed to the hostel and break down the door and found the student by hanging herself from a ceiling fan,” the IIT-Guwahati PRO said.

Police had also recovered a suicide note from the room and the student saying – she wanted to be a teacher, not an engineer.

After arrival of the magistrate, police had sent the body to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) for post-mortem.
