Cross border shelling in Rajouri, 71 schools closed

Srinagar, Feb 1 (IBNS): At least 71 schools were forced to shut down for the day after cross border shelling from Pakistan towards Indian posts on Thursday hampered proceedings.

The event took place along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to officials, firing exchange began early morning in Lam and Pukharni areas of Nowhera in Rajouri district, leading to the closure of 71 schools in villages hit by shelling.

Both sides resorted to the use of small arms and mortars, they said.

An official said that Pukharni, Kampala, Barat Gala, Rattal and Veer Badeshwar villages have come under mortar fire.
