Ex-Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif opposes communal violence in Basirhat

Kolkata/New Delhi, July 7 (IBNS): Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif opposed communal violence incident which hit West Bengal's Basirhat area said damaging property worth crores are against the teachings of Prophet Mohammad.

He said  Prophet Mohammad is too great to be defended against a Facebook post.

"Prophet Sahab is too great to b defended against a FB post.Damaging property worth crores&violence is absolutely against his teachings.Shame," Kaif tweeted.

Meanwhile,  delegations of the BJP, Congress and Left parties were on Friday stopped from entering  Basirhat,  hit by communal violence, reports said.

According to reports, a BJP delegation led by Roopa Ganguly was stopped near the Kolkata airport as they attempted to visit the area in north twenty-four paranas district while leaders of the Congress and Left Front too were asked by police to go back when they tried to visit the area to assess the situation.

The Congress delegation led by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was stopped at Barasat, while  BJP MP Roopa Ganguly was stopped at Michael Nagar.

CPI (M)  MP Mohammed Salim was stopped  much ahead of   Baduria, the violence-hit area now being barricaded by security forces.

Violence broke out in Basirhat last week over a  facebook post. Though the situation was brought under control it again turned bad on Thursday after police caned an angry, crowd that alleged that only the people from a particular community were being arrested.

Local Trinamool Congress MLA Dipendu Biswas had to face the ire of the people who had to leave the town under police protection.

The state government has suspended internet services in four police station areas of Basirhat, Baduria, Swarupnagar and Deganga to check the spread of rumours through social networking sites.
