Weeks after Jagdeep Dhankhar's shock exit from the post, the Vice-Presidential election is set to be held on Tuesday. BRS, BJD abstain from voting
Sep 09, 2025, at 06:54 amIn a significant move, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) abstained from voting in the Vice-Presidential election.
Though the decision to skip the voting by the two parties, that had supported NDA government in the past on several legislations, won't impact the overall poll result but it might deny the ruling coalition the figure it hopes for.

Born on July 8, 1946 in Hyderabad, Reddy was enrolled as advocate at Hyderabad with the Bar Council of Andhra Pradesh on December 27, 1971.
He has practiced in Writ and Civil matters in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh.
He worked as Government Pleader in the High Court during 1988-90.
Reddy also worked as Additional Standing Counsel for the central government for a period of 6 months during 1990.
He worked as Legal Adviser and Standing Counsel for Osmania University.
Reddy was appointed as a permanent Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on May 2, 1995.
He was appointed as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court on 05.12.2005 and a Judge of the Supreme Court of India on 12.01.2007.
He retired on 8.7.2011

Who is CP Radhakrishnan?

A politician from Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan was a member of the BJP.
He is currently serving as the Maharashtra Governor. He assumed the post on July 31, 2024.
In 1998, Radhakrishnan was elected as a Lok Sabha MP from Coimbatore on a BJP ticket. He was re-elected from the same constituency the following year.
He served as the BJP's Tamil Nadu state unit president from 2001 to 2005.
A member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Radhakrishnan previously served as the Jharkhand Governor.
He was also given the additional charge of Governor of Telangana and Lt. Governor of Puducherry.
