Madhya Pradesh Political Crisis: LIVE Updates

Madhya Pradesh fell into a political crisis after more than 17 Congress MLAs including six ministers, all loyals to party leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, flew out to Bengaluru, Karnataka. Following the development, Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Sunday held a cabinet meeting following which 20 ministers had resigned to allow a cabinet rejig to resolve the crisis.

As per latest reports, 20 Congress MLAs of Madhya Pradesh have resigned. 

Jyotiraditya Scindia must have been disrespected by Congress: Vasundhara Raje

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister, BJP leader and Jyotiraditya Scindia's aunt, Vasundhara Raje, said, "He (Jyotiraditya Scindia) must have been disrespected by the Congress otherwise he would not have taken such a drastic step."

"Earlier I have seen he was respected well in Parliament. Definitely something has happened very recently so he took the step," she said and added, "It is the return of son to his own family."

Jyotiraditya Scindia betrayed trust of people and ideology: Ashok Gehlot

Slamming former Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, who has left the Congress, Rajasthan Chief Minister and party's veteran leader, Ashok Gehlot, tweeted, "Joining hands with BJP in a time of national crisis speaks volumes about a leaders self-indulgent political ambitions. Especially when the BJP ruining the economy, democratic institutions, social fabric and as well the Judiciary."

"Mr Scindia has betrayed the trust of the people as well as the ideology. Such people proves they can’t thrive without power. Sooner they leave the better."

Congress expels Jyotiraditya Scindia for anti-party activities

Congress has expelled Jyotiraditya Scindia for anti-party activities after the leader tendered his resignation as the primary member of the party. 

 

Scindia should have stayed in party and fought it out: Congress leader Sushmita Dev

Reacting to Jyotiraditya Scindia's resignation, Congress leader Sushmita Dev told IBNS, "I believe he should have stayed in the party and fought it out."

When asked whether it is only time for the Congress government to fall now, Dev said, "Only time will tell. Politics is dynamic."

Was unable to serve people remaining in Congress: Scindia writes in resignation letter

In the resignation letter, Scindia wrote, "Having been a primary member of the Congress party for last 18 years, it is now time for me to move on. I am tendering my resignation from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress and as you well know, this is a path that has been drawing itself out over the last year.

While my aim and purpose remain the same as it has always been from the very beginning, to serve the people of my state and country, I believe I am unable to do this anymore within this party.

To reflect and realise the aspirations of my people and my workers I believe it is best that I now look ahead at a fresh start."

The meeting between Jyotiraditya Scindia, Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah has ended.

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said, "Will respond if Jyotiraditya Scindia makes anything publicly."

A meeting is currently underway between Prime Minister Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah and Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia.
