Want to go back to painting again: Sabyasachi Chakraborty at Camel event

Kolkata, Mar 5 (IBNS): Tollywood actor Sabyasachi Chakraborty, while attending an annual art exhibition and national prize distribution, organised by Camel Art Foundation on Wednesday, said that the quality of the works he saw inspired him to pick up paint brush again.
"The uniqueness and the masterpieces, portrayed in the exhibition is inspiring me to spend less on acting and go back to his world of painting again," he said at the event of the  Camel Art Foundation, the wing of Kokuyo Camlin which declared the names of the winners of 2016 CAF Annual Art contest on Wednesday,  at ICCR, Kolkata.

The event was attended by artist Wasim R. Kapoor, actor Sabyasachi Chakraborty and art critic, writer and journalist Shankar Bhattacharya.

On being asked about the quality of paintings presented at the exhibition artist Wasim Kapoor told IBNS: “In my life I have visited several exhibitions till date, but this is indeed a rare spectacle, to cherish in my mind, where it is difficult for an artist, like me, to mark a single work as average, each and every work is so wonderfully illustrated.”

The exhibition showcased the paintings of over 100 artists, across the country. The function was open to all art lovers and successfully saw a sight of many people coming and cheering the winners, besides having a look at the works of the participant’s works in the exhibition.

Speaking on the occasion, Saumitra Presad, Chief Marketing Officer, Kokuyo Camlin Ltd, said, “It’s been truly a great experience to host this year’s CAF event in Kolkata-a place well-known for being the bastion of art and artists. We are glad with the response we received this year and look forward to the lucky eight winners that will travel across Europe to visit art galleries and museums there.”

The four professional category winners were awarded a sum of Rs 1 lakh each. And in the student category, one winner and two best entries, in each medium, won cash prizes worth Rs 50,000 and Rs 21,000 respectively.

The eight finalists won an opportunity to visit art galleries and museums in Europe-Paris, Rome, Florence and Venice. The winners will leave for a ten-day all expenses paid-trip in July 2016. And as mentioned in the event, very soon an online catalogue of prize winning and exhibited entries will be launched.

The CAF contest included participants who were professional artists, students, amateurs and hobbyists. The online contest was launched in June 2015 and invited students as well as professionals to send their works in any of the four medium- Oil, Acrylic, Water and Drawing and Pastels.

The four member national jury comprises artists from different corners of India. The next edition of the CAF contest is slated to  be held in Mumbai.
