Tata Steel's 'Art-in-Industry' to bring focus back on diversity

In its 17th edition, Tata Steel Art in Industry will play host to a total of 21 artists across a diverse section of the budding and eminent, contemporary and time-tested, from different regions of India. 

 

R B Bhaskaran, G Subramanian, Ramesh P Gujar, Gouri Vemula are some of the major names who will showcase their skill.  

 

Over previous editions more than 250 artists have participated in the Art in Industry meets.

 

The art camp was inaugurated by T V Narendran, Managing Director, Tata Steel India & SEA. 

 

Speaking on the occasion, T V Narendran said, "Art in Industry has a rich history in itself.  Tata Steel looks at different ways to connect with the community, Art in Industry in one such way. It’s in our DNA to promote Art and Culture. This is a great opportunity for Tata Steel fraternity and citizens of Jamshedpur to interact with the best of artists."

 

“Tata Steel Art-in-Industry aims to serve as a perfect platform for prominent and the emerging artists under one platform. Over the years, this pioneering art event has provided base for some of the well-known contemporary artists to make a mark in the Indian art arena. The endeavour is to foster participation in softer skills and community development. The annual signature event enables expression of thought as well as cross cultural learning through the medium of oil and canvas," said Chanakya Chaudhary, Group Director, Corporate Communication & Regulatory Affairs, Tata Steel Limited,

 

“The Art in Industry camps are designed to encourage diversity, be it gender, economic, regional, talent, experience or genre. The camps bring together artists who have cultivated their unique strokes of artistic expressions rather than those who merely follow established conventions," added Chaudhary emphasizing on the art camp which entails the legacy of Tata Steel in supporting art and culture.

 

The concept of Art-in-Industry dates back to 1943 when Tata Steel was one of the prize donors of an exhibition and sale of art in the JJ School of Art, Mumbai, wherein artists were invited to compete for prizes and scholarships.
