Social media buzzes with Father's Day wishes

New Delhi, June 21 (IBNS): As India hogged the limelight with the observance of World Yoga Day, June 21 is also a day for doting fathers across the world to be pampered by their children eager to express they care.
And with the recent Bollywood release Piku on a father-daughter relationship still trending, it is time for Indian children to take a call and raise a toast to the man behind their roller coaster ride of life.

The third Sunday of June is dedicated to celebrate Father’s Day all across the globe as sons and daughters recognize the contribution that fathers in their lives.

It is said that Father’s day was first observed way back in 1908, in Fairmont in West Virginia in the Williams Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church South. But now it is a more social media affair while Internet also buzzed with children remembering their father in umpteen ways.

Google celebrated Father’s day with a special animated doodle to wish dads across the globe a happy Father’s Day.

Google has dedicated this doodle to fathers of all species, including a male penguin, a male fox, a cat, and a man with their offspring.

The animated doodle shows the relationship of a father-child, with a male penguin protecting its egg, a pup imitating his dad, kittens perched on a cat’s back and a human kid surprising his dad with a gift.

On this day, children present cards and gifts to their fathers and convey their respects for holding such an important position in their lives.

Kolkata School teacher Rima Dutta Majumder said: “My father give me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me.”

MBA student Adita Bhattacharyya said: “For me my dad is my first hero, a superman, out of the comic book, to that person who left aside all his dreams for us. I would take this opportunity to tell him that your are the greatest gift one has got.”

Some are cynical about the social media wishes.

A second year college student in Kolkata, Avijit Nath said: “To be honest I really don't get it that why people start posting about how much they love their dads on Father's Day or same with there moms on Mother's Day. If you really love them go and give them a hug and say that "I love you". Love is not something that you shower upon someone on a particular day, If you love your parents, everyday is a father's day, every day is a mother’s day.”

Celebrities also observed this day on various social networking sites.

"The man I never stop learning from, who I look up to always, thank you Dad for everything #FathersDay love you," posted actor Sidharth Malhotra.

"#MyfatherMyCoach My Dad being a exceptional swimmer taught me swimming in the sea n removed my fear of deep water," he posted.

Bollywod actress Sonakshi Sinha tweeted: "‏@sonakshisinha Happy fathers day to my first and forever hero @ShatruganSinha! Love you pops!"

Posting a picture of her childhood where she is trying to touch the moustache of her father Anil Kapoor, actress Sonam Kapoor too wished the evergreen Bollywood man on the day.

Cricketer Unmukt Chand tweeted: "Riding in the hills with pops. What a way to celebrate #FathersDay love u dad."

Posting a picture with her father, actress Parineeti Chopra tweeted: Happpyyy fathers' day papa!! My original producer ;)
