Mumbai/IBNS: Film and entertainment sector in Maharashtra is expanding by creating opportunities for employment and self-employment. Considering this, a proposal to give industry status to the film and entertainment sector would be presented at a cabinet meeting soon, clarified the state's Cultural Affairs Minister Amit Deshmukh

A meeting on giving industry status to the film and entertainment sector was held at the Ministry on Friday under the chairmanship of Cultural Affairs Minister Amit Deshmukh.

Stating that many people are getting employment due to the film/entertainment sector, Deshmukh said, the scope of the film & entertainment industry is huge.

In respect to this, the entertainment sector will be given the status of an industrial sector, which will help small and medium enterprises to get concessions and strengthen the economy, he said.

The Department of Cultural Affairs is also taking necessary steps to declare this sector as an industrial sector.

In order to give impetus and mobility to the film and entertainment industry, the Department of Cultural Affairs is working on a policy for the film and entertainment sector and giving it an industry status.

This includes television, digital media, live events, animation, out of home media, cinema, radio and many more.

Movies (short films/movies screened on OTT media) and the entertainment sector have expanded significantly and need to be given industry status, he noted.

Considering this, the Department of Cultural Affairs is preparing a policy for films, serials, OTTs, theatre, folk art, documentaries and advertisements, said Deshmukh.
