Kolkata hosts 4-day long classical music festival
Kolkata, Mar 6 (IBNS): Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers in association with Behala Sankriti Sammmilini inaugurated the fourth edition of Behala Classical Festival on Thursday at the Blind School ground in Kolkata's Behala area.
The four day long classical carnival was inaugurated by Bengali fiction writer Buddhadev Guha and sarangi player Janab Roshan Ali along with Managing director of Shyam Sundar Co. Jewellers Rupak Saha.
This year Hindustani Classical Singer Begum Parveen Sultana and the Mohan Veena player Biswamohan Bhat were present at the stage on the first day.
On the second day, Vikku Vinayakram had a Ghatam performance along with the duet of the vocalists Rajan and Sajan Mishra. Performances of vocalists Omkar Dadarkar and Sarod Player Aman Ali Khan enthralled the audiences on the third day.
Sarangi player Roshan Ali said: “After passing through many hustles and bustles, the organizers over here have been successful to approach me and finally bring me here. Therefore, it is indeed a big pleasure, for me, to be here this day. If fate permits, next time I promise to present to you all, with my special medium of sarangi.”
Classical Singer Begum Parveen Sultana, who feels Indian classical music is the richest treasury of India, said: “Indian classical music is one of the richest treasuries of India and I really want the present and the upcoming generation to make this music form, their soul and blood, and give a new light and dimension this cultural heritage.”
“This is my first visit to Behala and I am really glad to perceive the way, the cultural event has been framed so wonderfully, by the organizers,” she added
The festival will conclude on Sundy, with a violin performance by Kalka Ramnath and a tabla performance, played by Kumar Bose.
