Bengal celebrates Lithuanian National Day

Kolkata, Mar 8 (IBNS) : Kolkata recently witnessed the bridging of barriers when Lithuania inaugurated its Honorary Consulate in Kolkata.

The day, also marked as the National Day of The Republic of Lithuania had the Ambassador of Lithuania in India, Laimonas Talat Kelpsa and his wife Alina Taluntyte gracing the occasion.

The guests at Crystal Hall, Taj Bengal were testimony to the appointment of Arvind Sukhani, Honorary Consul for Eastern and North-Eastern India. In attendance at the event where the who’s who of Kolkata glitterati.

An attempt to reconnect cultural ties was seen when Ambassador of Lithuania in India Laimonas Talat Kelpsa released the Bengali edition of ‘The History of Lithuania’.

Speaking on the occasion, he said, “Kolkata is the city of art and culture and this book is a tribute to its people. Also, it ‘s a matter of humble pride and immense satisfaction to now have Arvind Sukhani as the Honorary Consul, whose efforts in promoting Lithuania is no secret, not just to our friends in Kolkata but also in Lithuania.”

Arvind Sukhani,  Consul for Eastern and North-Eastern India said, “We have been active in Kolkata since 2013 and its citizens as well as the Government have embraced us with open arms for which we are utmost grateful to them. With the opening of the Consulate, we can do much more to win the hearts of the people, not just in Kolkata but across East and North-East and make the visibility of Lithuania more prominent in times to come.”
