Kolkata: Axis Bank partnered with The Nile Mile, a leading NGO, to organize a marathon, ‘Plant a Tree Run’ in Kolkata recently when some 950 runners participated and 400 trees were planted, according to the
bank.

It was a uniquely curated concept that brought together two very important and relevant issues of the day, said the bank in a release.

On one hand, it held up the importance of health & fitness through running and on the other it underscored the importance of life and the requirement for planting trees to save the planet, it said.

This was the second edition of the run with Tata Pravesh as Sustainability Partner and St. Xavier's University who supported the initiative. Notable corporate participants like PricewaterhouseCoopers, Larsen & Toubro, IBM, Cognizant, Primetals Technologies and TCS also supported this unique initiative.

More than 950 runners of all age groups from different parts of the city took active participation and 400 trees were planted. The runners were given an opportunity to dedicate the plants to their loved ones
with personalized placards.

The plants will be nurtured for three years by the Green for Life Foundation. As part of the event, a blood donation camp was also organized.
