South Asia Satellite launched successfully

Sriharikota, May 5 (IBNS): Creating history and carrying a 450-crore communications satellite, the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle or GSLV lifted off from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh on Friday and was launched successfully.

The satellite has been gifted by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to  six South Asian countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the launch successful.

"Successful launch of South Asian Satellite is a historic moment. It opens up new horizons of engagement.," Modi tweeted.

He said the movie will greatly benefit South Asia & our region’s progress.

He said: "I congratulate the team of scientists who worked hard for the successful launch of South Asia Satellite. We are very proud of them. @isro."

He said other South Asian leaders are also celebrating the launch.

Modi said :"The historic occasion has been made better with a surprise- we have leaders of South Asian nations joining us in celebrating this launch."

He said: "I welcome President @ashrafghani, PM Hasina, PM @tsheringtobgay, @presidencymv Abdulla Yameen, PM Prachanda, President @MaithripalaS."

Modi said: "All the leaders will take part & address the programme via video conferencing at 5.30 PM this evening."

He said: "The support and presence of these leaders will add even more joy in the hearts & minds of our region."

Modi called the South Asian nations as one 'united family'.

"We are a united family of South Asian countries, united in our pursuit of peace, progress & prosperity of our region & the entire humankind," he said.
