Forget probiotics? Nutritionist says this is the real secret to better gut health

A nutritionist has argued that for improving the gut system, a person should focus on their nervous system more than on turning to probiotics or fibre-rich foods.

Nutritionist Deepsikha Jain shared a video on Instagram where she focussed on how chronic stress and an unregulated nervous system can disrupt digestion and ultimately affect your overall gut health.

"Do you know the most essential and important thing for your gut health is a regulated nervous system?” she said in the video.

In the video, that has earned a significant number of viewership, the nutritionist said a regulated nervous system will help you activate a parasympathetic rest and digest state.

“It improves the digestive enzymes and actually coordinates with the bowel movement, improving your gut health,” she said.

She further said chronic stress, having poor mental health and a dysregulated nervous system break this pattern, which ultimately impacts a person's constipation, worsening inflammation and making them feel much more bloated.

She said: "if you have poor mental health and a dysregulated nervous system it directly impacts how your digestion is and how your gut health is."

"Focus on regulating their nervous system first," she said.
