Bangladesh fights Coronavirus: 291 more infected with COVID-19, 13 fresh deaths

Dhaka/UNI: Thirteen more people died due to Novel Coronavirus in Bangladesh in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 8,266.

During the period, 291 more people were diagnosed with the virus, raising the total infection to 5,40,266, the Directorate General of Health Services said in a statement here on Saturday.

Of the total patients, 4,86,767 recovered, with 374 making recovery in the past 24 hours.

The daily count came from test of 12,871 samples in the past day. With this, a total of 38,35,216 samples have, so far, been tested.

Bangladesh first reported its COVID-19 cases on March 8. Since then, the country has been struggling to limit the spread of the highly contagious virus.

COVID-19 first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to newer countries and territories.

Till date, the epidemic has infected 108,787,726 people and killed 2,395,702 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles the number of new Coronavirus cases and deaths from it.
However, the total number of people who recovered from the COVID-19 pandemic reached 80,815,219 across the world.
