Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Sunday hosted a luncheon interaction at his New Delhi residence for a group of Delhi-based medical alumni from Jammu, many of whom studied at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu, during his tenure as a Professor of Medicine and Diabetes.

The gathering brought together several of his former students, who have since built successful medical careers and are now serving in senior positions at hospitals and healthcare institutions across Delhi-NCR and neighbouring regions.

Recalling his association with GMC Jammu before entering full-time public life, Dr Jitendra Singh said it was particularly gratifying to meet his former students and see how well they had progressed in their professional careers.

The doctors shared their experiences and fondly recalled their student days, turning the luncheon into a warm reunion with their former teacher.

The gathering featured medical professionals from a wide range of specialities, including medicine, neurology, pulmonary medicine, oncology, psychiatry, pharmacology, paediatrics, gastroenterology, hepatology, radiology, ophthalmology, plastic surgery and hospital administration. Many of the former students now hold senior clinical, academic and administrative positions at leading hospitals and medical institutions.

Among those present were Dr Sheikh Yasir Islam, Professor of Medicine at Lady Hardinge Medical College; Dr Sumbul Erum, who is in private practice in Noida; Dr Sujata Thapa, Professor of Medicine at RML Hospital; Dr Padma Lahdol, Assistant Professor of Medicine at RML Hospital; Dr Akhil, Associate Professor of Neurology at Lady Hardinge Medical College; Dr Atul, Oncologist at Max Hospital, Noida; Dr Ekta Arora, Associate Professor at GIMS; Dr Sanjay Fotedar, Professor of Pulmonary Medicine in Rohtak; Dr Shikhaa Mahajan, Professor at SHKM Government Medical College, Mewat; Dr Heena Kudyar, Plastic Surgeon at the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre, Vasant Kunj; and Dr Himani Kudyar, a pathologist associated with multiple diagnostic centres in Gurugram.

The former students recalled attending Dr Jitendra Singh's classes and shared memories of their academic years at GMC Jammu.

The luncheon also provided an opportunity for the doctors to reconnect after several years, share their professional journeys and express gratitude to their former teacher for the academic foundation and guidance they received during their formative years.

From specialised clinical care and medical education to healthcare administration, the former students have pursued diverse professional paths and continue to contribute to the healthcare sector in various capacities. Their careers span multiple areas of medicine, with many serving at prominent hospitals and academic institutions across Delhi-NCR and neighbouring regions.

Dr Jitendra Singh said that for a teacher, seeing a student progress in life, attain senior positions and make a meaningful contribution to society is among the most fulfilling aspects of the profession.

He expressed happiness at the achievements of his former students and their continued contributions to the healthcare sector.

The luncheon brought together a teacher and his former students in a warm reunion that celebrated their shared academic past and the professional journeys they have undertaken since their days at Government Medical College, Jammu.
