With allocations to UTs, Budget 2020 provides Rs 1,67,250 Cr to Home Ministry for next fiscal

New Delhi/UNI: With an allocation of Rs 52,863.61 crore for eight Union Territories (UTs), the Union Home Ministry has been allocated with Rs 1,67,250 crore in Union Budget 2020-21, presented by the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday.

The newly created Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh have been given Rs 30,757 crore  and Rs 5,958 crore respectively whereas  Rs 164.26 crore earmarked for Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Rs 4,635.10 for Chandigarh.

The recently merged UT Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu has been allocated with Rs 2,180.52 crore and Lakshadweep has been given 1,349.71 crore.

Rs 1,116 crore has been given to Delhi and Rs 1,703.02 crore to Puducherry in the Union Budget.

The biggest slice of the cake will be given to the paramilitary force with allocation of Rs Rs 92,054.53 crore for 2020-21.

The Union Budget has allocated Rs 4,568 crore for Census 2021 and  Rs 3,941.35 crore  has been sanctioned for the  National Population Register (NPR) exercise by the Union Cabinet. 

The Budgetary provision of Rs 1,126.62 crore  has been made for relief measures due to natural disasters while Rs 842.45 crore were given  for social security and welfare schemes in next fiscal.

The Union Budget also allocated Rs 3,688.10 crore  as grants-in-aid to the States, Rs 1,001.30 crore as grant-in-aid to the Union Territory administrations and Rs 195 crore to the North East States.

Rs 25,000 crore has been allocated for the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF), which provides financial assistance to the states in case of natural calamities.
The NDRF got Rs 10,000 crore in the last fiscal.

Rs 1140.38 crore has also been earmarked for expenses of the Council of Ministers.
