Bank of Baroda introduces UPI global QR payments for international visitors across merchant network in India
Public lender Bank of Baroda has announced the launch of UPI Global Reverse Acceptance, enabling international tourists, overseas Indians and foreign wallet/payment application users from eligible countries to make seamless international QR payments at Bank of Baroda UPI QR merchants across India using their home-country banking or payment applications.
The initiative extends international QR payment acceptance across the Bank’s merchant network, enhancing payment convenience for international visitors while giving Bank of Baroda merchants access to a wider customer base.
In line with NPCI International’s vision of enabling global interoperability for digital payments, UPI Global Reverse Acceptance facilitates cross-border Person-to-Merchant (P2M) transactions in India for international visitors from countries participating in NPCI International’s Global Payments ecosystem. These include major international corridors such as Singapore, UAE, Nepal, Bhutan, Mauritius, Sri Lanka, USA, Qatar and France, among others.
Visitors can simply scan Bank of Baroda UPI QR code using their home-country banking or payment application and complete transactions instantly. It reduces the need to carry cash or exchange foreign currency and offers a convenient payment experience while travelling in India.
Sanjay Mudaliar, Executive Director, Bank of Baroda said, "Bank of Baroda is proud to introduce UPI Global Reverse Acceptance, an important step towards making digital payments more accessible across borders. By enabling international visitors to make merchant payments through payment applications they already use and are familiar with, we are enhancing convenience for travelers while creating new business opportunities for our merchants. UPI Global Reverse Acceptance strengthens our merchant acquiring franchise and reflects Bank of Baroda’s commitment to innovation and building a globally interoperable digital payments ecosystem.”
