Tata Communications, a communications technology player, and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles (TMPV) have announced a collaboration to power the newly launched Sierra.ev with built-in 5G cellular connectivity, paving the way for next-generation software-defined vehicles (SDVs).

Tata Communications’ MOVE™ Connected Vehicle Platform will be integrated with TMPV’s new SDV platform, N.IO, to provide seamless connectivity and digital-first in-vehicle experiences. The technology deployment is designed to make the Sierra.ev future-ready and scalable for advanced connected-vehicle capabilities, while supporting AI-enabled applications.

The Sierra.ev aims to enhance safety and in-vehicle experiences for customers. Tata Communications MOVE™ will enable a seamless vehicle onboarding journey, secure in-vehicle connectivity for uninterrupted content streaming, faster over-the-air (OTA) updates and the option for users to purchase additional subscription packs.

The platform will also support safety-critical services, including emergency calls, remote support and real-time remote vehicle diagnostics.

Tata Communications said the collaboration will help bring TMPV’s vision of transforming vehicles into continuously connected digital experiences to life. The technology is expected to enable uninterrupted infotainment, greater personalisation, improved fleet efficiency and new avenues for revenue generation.

The collaboration is also aimed at ensuring that TMPV’s vehicles remain future-ready through seamless connectivity, intelligent services and continuous feature updates, redefining the customer experience over the vehicle lifecycle.

Vivek Manglik, Executive Vice President – Interaction Fabric, Tata Communications, said, “Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles has consistently set benchmarks for innovation in the automotive industry, and we are excited to collaborate on the launch of the Sierra.ev. As vehicles evolve into intelligent ecosystems that enable a growing range of services and applications, the underlying digital fabric will be central to fostering innovation and scaling new capabilities. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to shaping a smarter mobility experience that will securely enhance convenience and personalisation.”

Sven Patuschka, Chief Technology Officer, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., said, “As vehicles become increasingly software-defined, highly intuitive digital connectivity and services will play a central role in shaping customer experiences. The Sierra.ev marks an important step in this evolution, and our collaboration with Tata Communications provides the robust digital backbone required to deliver seamless connectivity, continuous innovation, and enhanced in-vehicle experiences. Together, we are enabling technologies that allow vehicles to adapt, improve, and deliver greater value throughout their lifecycle.”
