UP-based Shankha Air gets govt approval to operate

New Delhi: India's newest airline, Shankh Air, has received approval from the Civil Aviation Ministry, in a key step towards launching its operations, media reports said.

However, the airline must still obtain clearance from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) before it can officially begin flights, Economic Times reported.

Shankh Air, which will be the first scheduled airline from Uttar Pradesh, plans to base its operations in Lucknow and Noida, according to the report.

According to its website, the airline aims to connect major cities across India, focusing on both interstate and intrastate routes, particularly in regions with high demand and limited direct flight options.

"The company is further directed to comply with relevant provisions of regulations including FDI, SEBI, and other applicable rules and regulations," stated the Civil Aviation Ministry’s letter of approval.

The no-objection certificate (NOC) granted to Shankh Air will be valid for three years, the letter added.

The airline's launch is expected to improve connectivity in areas with limited air travel options, boosting regional mobility across India.
